Cape Cod Fish Balls

Salt codfish 1 Pound
Prepared instant mashed potatoes 4 Cup (64 tbs)
Egg 1
Egg yolks 2
Shortening/Vegetable oil 2 Cup (32 tbs) (For deep Frying)



1. In a large saucepan, place codfish and cover with cold water.

2. Bring water to a boil, cover pan and simmer fish for 10 minutes until it is cooked and flakes easily with a fork.

3. Drain and let fish cool until easy to handle.

4. Flake fish into small pieces, removing and discarding bones and skin.

5. Add flaked fish to a large bowl and add instant mashed potatoes (made with salt, butter and water) egg and yolks and beat with a wooden spoon until well blended.


6. In a deep fat fryer or large frying pan, melt 3 inches of shortening or pour vegetable oil and heat it to 375°F.

7. When fat or oil is hot drop cod mixture using a tablespoon, to make small fritters.

8. Fry, turning once, until golden brown and crispy.

9. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain the fritters on paper toweling.

10. Fry the next batch of fritters.


11. Serve fritters hot and crispy with your favorite sauce or dip.
