Chinese Veg Momos

Momos is a Chinese appetizer, but nowadays it has created a niche amongst Indian too. This dish is often accompanied with red chili and garlic dip, which enhance the subtle taste of momos.

Ingredients

For dough
All purpose flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Oil 1 Tablespoon
Water 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) (as needed)
For stuffing
Garlic 1 Teaspoon , finely chopped
Green onion 2 , finely chopped (white and green separated)
Cabbage 1 Cup (16 tbs) , finely chopped
Carrot 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) , finely chopped
Salt and pepper To Taste
Soy sauce 1 Teaspoon

Directions

GETTING READY

1. For the dough – in a medium bowl, mix together flour, salt and oil. Add in the water to make a smooth dough. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside.

MAKING

2. For the stuffing – in a pan, heat the oil, add in the garlic, and white part of the spring onion. Stir for a few seconds on high flame.

3. Add in the remaining veggies, and fry in high flame for a minute.

4. Season with salt, pepper, soy sauce and mix well. Followed by green onion and stir for a minute on high. Turn off the stove and set aside the mixture to cool off.

5. Divide the dough into 16 equal portions and roll with rolling pin, to make a small disc. Place 1 tbsp. of the stuffing and seal like a momos. Repeat the process with rest of the ingredients.

6. In a steamer, pour in the water and bring to a boil, gently place the momos and close the lid. Steam for 5 – 10 minutes.

SERVING

7. Serve with chili and garlic dip.
