This recipe for homemade sweet and sour sauce tastes like a Chinese restaurant recipe, but you are going to make this. This homemade sauce tastes much better than any sauce in a jar. So go ahead and give this recipe for sweet and sour sauce a try.
This recipe is also preservative free, corn syrup free, and can be made without harmful dyes.
Water | 5 Cup (80 tbs) | |
Orange | 2 Medium , washed, sliced | |
Lemon | 1 , washed, sliced | |
Ginger slice | 3 | |
Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Vinegar | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Ketchup | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Red food coloring | 1 (optional) | |
Corn starch | 3 Tablespoon , mixed with 3 tablespoons of water |
MAKING:
In a medium pot, combine orange, lemon, ginger, water and bring to boil.
Reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 30 minutes. Once done, drain the water through sieve and press well.
Transfer water to a pot, heat it and add sugar, vinegar and ketchup. Whisk well.
Mix corn starch and water in a small bowl. Slowly add to sauce while stirring continuously until sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
Store in an airtight container.
