In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Bacon Candy. This candy is made by baking strips of bacon that are generously flavored with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground red pepper, and ground black peppercorns.
Bacon slices | 1/2 Pound (8 slices)
Light brown sugar | 2 Tablespoon , firmly packed
Ground cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon
Nutmeg | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Fresh ground black peppercorn | 1/2 Teaspoon
Ground red pepper | 1/4 Teaspoon (to taste) (Optional) |
GETTING READY
1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
MAKING
2. On top of a broiler pan, place bacon slices in a single layer.
3. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, red pepper, and black peppercorn. Mix well.
4. Sprinkle the mixture generously over top of each bacon slice.
5. Pop the pan in oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until bacon is crisp and glazed.
6. Let bacon cool for about 2 minutes before transferring to a plate lined with paper towel. Cool for about 30 minutes and then blot with paper towel, being careful not to remove the glaze.
7. Use kitchen scissors to cut bacon slices into squares.
SERVING
8. Serve warm and enjoy!
TIPS
You may refrigerate the candy and reheat in microwave to renew the crispness of bacon.
The candy may be served as is, or it may be used as a garnish for omelets or quiche—or even frosting on cakes or cupcakes, if you like a sweet/salty flavor.
