Betty's Deep Rich Gingerbread

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Deep, Rich Gingerbread. This is such a flavorful dessert that all it needs for perfection is a dollop of sweetened whipped cream on top!

Ingredients

Butter 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , softened
Eggs 1
Molasses 1 Cup (16 tbs)
All purpose flour 2 1/2 Cup (40 tbs)
Baking soda 1 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt 1/2 Teaspoon
Ground cloves 1 Teaspoon
Ground cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
Ground ginger 1 Teaspoon
Hot water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
For garnish
Sweetened whipped cream topping 1 Tablespoon (as needed)

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.

2. Butter and flour a 9-inch square baking pan or Pyrex dish.

MAKING

3. In a large mixing bowl, drop softened butter and whip until fluffy.

4. Gradually throw sugar into the bowl, and beat until smooth.

5. Add egg and molasses. Beat after each addition.

6. In a separate mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, ground cloves, ground cinnamon, and ground ginger. Mix well.

7. Drop flour mixture into the bowl with molasses mixture, alternately with 1 cup hot tap water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Blend after each addition.

8. Transfer batter into the baking pan.

9. Pop the baking pan in oven, and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick when inserted in the center comes out clean.

10. Remove the pan from oven and let the bread sit in pan for about 10 minutes. Transfer it to a wire rack and let it cool completely.

SERVING

11. Cut into slices and serve gingerbread warm or cooled completely with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream.
