|Sifted cake flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Unsweetened cocoa||1/2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Shortening||1/2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Firmly packed brown sugar||1/2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Baking soda||2 Teaspoon|
|Milk||1/2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Boiling water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Fluffy vanilla frosting||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Preheat oven to 325°.
Grease two 8-inch round layer cake pans.
Combine and sift flour, cocoa and salt.
In a mixing bowl, cream shortening; add sugars.
Beat until fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Dissolve baking soda in milk.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to batter; mix well.
Add boiling water and vanilla.
Beat until smooth.
(Batter will be thin.) Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake 45-50 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool in pans 10 minutes.
Remove from pans and cool thoroughly on racks.
Fill between layers and top. garnish as desired.
Cut into wedges with electric knife and serve.
Vanilla Fluffy Frosting: Cream 1/2 cup butter or margarine in mixing bowl; add 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar and beat well.
Add 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla; combine.
Add 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar and beat until fluffy.
