Apples in a cake! Two of our favourite things this is easy and tasty!
Butter | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) (at room temperature) | |
Brown sugar | 2/3 Cup (10.67 tbs) | |
Pure vanilla extract | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Egg | 1 Large | |
All | purpose flour | |
Baking powder | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Baking soda | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Cinnamon | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Buttermilk | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Apples | 2 Large | |
Turbinado sugar | 1 Tablespoon |
Getting Ready
Preheat oven to 400ºF (200ºC)
Making
Grease a 9" cast iron skillet with butter.
Cream together butter and brown sugar, until light and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla then continue to beat until smooth.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda,
cinnamon, and salt.
With the mixer on low speed, alternate adding the flour mixture and the buttermilk.
Mix until just combined.
Transfer batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
Cut apples into thin slices and arrange them on top of the batter.
Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Bake for 25 - 30 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.
Serving
Serve warm right from the pan.
