Betty's Basic Buttermilk Biscuits

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Basic Buttermilk Biscuits. These are perfect for making country ham biscuits, using Baked Country Ham from bettyskitchen. They are also great with butter and/or preserves.

Ingredients

Butter 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Self raising flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Buttermilk 3/4 Cup (12 tbs)
For topping
Butter 2 Tablespoon , melt
For greasing
Cooking oil spray 1/2 Teaspoon

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.

MAKING

2. In a mixing bowl, add butter and self-rising flour. With a pastry blender or food processor cut butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.

3. Add buttermilk and mix to combine.

4. On lightly floured surface, put the dough and knead 3 or 4 times as shown in the video.

5. Roll dough to ¾-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter.

6. Place biscuits on greased baking sheet. Pop the baking sheet in 425 degree F oven and bake for 12-15 minutes. Turn the oven to broil in the last 1 minute of baking for the biscuits to brown.

7. Brush biscuits with melted butter.

SERVING

8. Serve buttermilk biscuits with baked country ham slices or butter in the middle.

TIPS

If you do not have self rising flour then for each cup of all purpose flour add 1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder and ½ teaspoon of salt.

You can also serve biscuits with raspberry preserve.
