Sweet And Sour Beef And Cabbage

Lean ground beef 1 Pound
Uncooked rice 3 Tablespoon
Grated onion 2 Tablespoon
Egg 1 , lightly beaten
Water 2 Tablespoon
Dried dill weed 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Black pepper 1/2 Teaspoon
Vegetable oil 2 Tablespoon
Yellow onion 1 Medium , peeled and chopped
Fresh tomatoes/1 can, 1 pound tomatoes, chopped, with their juice 3 Medium , peeled and chopped
Lemon juice 2 Tablespoon
Honey 1 Tablespoon
Cabbage 1 Pound , cut into wedges (1 Small)
Carrots 2 , peeled and sliced


1. In a large bowl, combine the beef, rice, grated onion, egg, water, dillweed, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of the pepper. Shape the mixture into 6 oval patties.

2. Heat the oil in a heavy 12-inch skillet over moderately high heat for about 1 minute. Add the patties and cook, uncovered, for 4 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove the patties to a platter.

3. Pour all but 2 tablespoons of the drippings from the skillet. Add the chopped onion, tomatoes, lemon juice, honey, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and add the cabbage wedges. Top with the patties and carrots, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
