Did you know that Chili's used to be known for their tasty chili. Years ago they removed their original version online and replaced it with another type of chili.
Now you can enjoy their old style recipe again. This is a no bean chili that you will love. This is perfect for hot dogs and even frito pies.
For chili spice blend | ||
Chili powder | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Salt | 1/8 Cup (2 tbs) (you can reduce if desired) | |
Ground cumin | 1/8 Cup (2 tbs) | |
Paprika | 1 Tablespoon | |
Ground black pepper | 1 Teaspoon | |
Garlic powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
Cayenne pepper | 1 Teaspoon (add more if desired) | |
For chili ingredients | ||
Ground chuck | 4 Pound | |
Water | 3 1/4 Cup (52 tbs) | |
Tomato sauce | 16 Ounce | |
Chopped yellow onions | 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs) | |
Cooking oil | 1 Tablespoon | |
Water | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Masa harina | 1 Tablespoon |
MAKING
In a small bowl, combine together all the chili spice ingredients.
Heat a stockpot over medium heat. Place ground chuck into stockpot and cook until the meat is browned. Drain if desired.
While meat is browning combine chili spice mix, water, and tomato sauce in the bowl. Stir until well blended.
Add chili-seasoning liquid to the browned meat. Stir well, and bring to a boil.
Sauté onions in 1 tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat in a skillet until the onions are translucent.
Add the onions to the chili. Reduce the chili to low and simmer for one hour stirring every 15 minutes.
In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup water with masa harina. Mix well.
Add to chili stockpot, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
SERVING
Serve chili with rice.
