How to Make Kheema - Beef, Lamb or Mutton

Kheema simply translated means ground meat. There are so many different recipes for Kheema. In this recipe, the ground meat is flavored with onions, chilies, ginger, garlic, spices like turmeric, pepper, cumin, coriander and red chilli powders, ginger and garlic paste, salt and crushed roasted curry leaves. Tender frozen peas are added to this dish and it is finished with fresh chopped coriander.

Ingredients

Red onions 3 Medium , chopped finely
Oil 2 Tablespoon
Green chilli 1 Tablespoon , chopped finely (around 3 chillies)
Garlic 1 Tablespoon , minced (around 4 cloves)
Ginger 1 Tablespoon , minced (around 1/2 inch)
Turmeric powder 2 Tablespoon
Black pepper 2 Tablespoon , crushed
Cumin powder 2 Tablespoon
Coriander powder 2 Tablespoon
Red chilli powder 2 Tablespoon
Ginger paste 1 Tablespoon
Garlic paste 1 Tablespoon
Ground beef 2 Pound (regular/ medium)
Salt To Taste
Dried curry leaves 1 Teaspoon (Optional)
Peas 1 Cup (16 tbs) (fresh / frozen)
Coriander leaves 1 Cup (16 tbs) , chopped finely

Directions

MAKING

1. In a large pan, heat oil on medium heat. Add the onions, green chilies, ginger and garlic. Saute them till the onions turn light brown.

2. Season with turmeric powder, cumin powder, black pepper, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Add the ginger and garlic paste and continue to sauté for few more minutes.

3. Add the beef and stir well till all the spices are incorporated in the beef. Cover with a lid and cook for around 15 minutes while stirring frequently. Season with salt to taste and add the curry leaves (if using). Cover and continue to cook.

4. After 15 minutes add the peas, mix well, cover and cook again for another 15 minutes or till the peas and meat are cooked. Sprinkle coriander leaves, stir well and cook for another 2 minutes and turn off the heat.

SERVING

5. In a serving plate, serve the kheema matar with rotis or steamed rice.
