Chicken : Dakbokeumtang (Korean Spicy Chicken Stew) : Korean Food : Asian at Home

In this video I'm going to show you how to make easy delicious Korean food Dakbokeumtang (Korean Spicy Chicken Stew / Korean Spicy Braised Chicken)!!
It's one of my comfort and soul food. If I have dakbokeumtang, rice and kimchi?! I'm set! lol I hope you guys enjoy my recipe and please try it before the weather get too hot for your family, friends and even for yourself!!


Chicken 4 Pound , cut in bitesize pieces (skin on)
Sweet onion 1 Large , peeled and cut in 2" pieces
Danhobak kabocha 1/2 , cut in about 2 inch chunks
Potatoes 3 Medium , peeled and cut in quarters (Yukon gold potatoes)
Carrot 2 Medium , peeled and cut in chunks
Garlic cloves 7 , chopped
Korean red pepper paste 2 Tablespoon (gochujang)
Soy sauce 2 Tablespoon
Korean red pepper flakes 1 Tablespoon (gochugaru)
Black pepper To Taste
Sugar 1 Tablespoon
Sesame oil 1 Tablespoon
Sesame seed 1 Teaspoon , divided (1/4 teaspoon for chicken and 1/4 teaspoon for garnish)
Rice wine 2 Tablespoon
Green onion 4 , cut diagonally



1. In a small bowl, place together pepper paste, soy sauce, pepper flakes, black pepper, sugar, rice wine, sesame oil and sesame seeds, stir well to mix, and set aside.


2. In a pot with hot water add in chicken and bring to a boil.

3. Once the water boils, drain the chicken and rinse under cold water.

4. In a clean pot, add in the chicken, ½ of the onions, danhobak kabocha, potatoes, carrot and garlic.

5. Pour the soy sauce mixture all over the chicken and vegetables and stir well to coat the chicken and allow to simmer.

6. Turn the heat to medium, cover with lid and allow to for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

7. Add in the remaining onion, stir to mix, cover and allow to cook for 10 minutes more.

8. Add in the green onions reserving some for garnish and cook for 5 to 15 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked through.


9. In a serving bowl, transfer the chicken stew.

10. Sprinkle sesame seeds and reserved green onions on top and serve hot.
