Protein Rich Family Favorite Stew

Ever heard of a stew that is baked? Here's your all time favorite family stew that is made in two steps. First by cooking it on the stove until it is ready for the biscuit layer that bakes in the oven. It's the easiest stew you'll ever bake!


Lean ground beef 1 Pound
Water 3 Cup (48 tbs)
Low sodium crushed tomatoes 28 Ounce
Tomato puree 6 Ounce
Low sodium early young sweet peas 6 Ounce
Mixed vegetables 15 Ounce (Use seasonal vegetables of your choice)
Skimmed milk 2/3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
For homemade bisquick
Whole wheat flour 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Low sodium baking powder 1 Teaspoon
Unsalted butter 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste



1. Heat oven to 425ºF.

2. Prepare the home made bisquick by first measuring the sifted flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Use a wire whisk to blend thoroughly. Incorporate the softened butter and mix well.


3. Cook beef in ovenproof Dutch oven over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until brown. Stir in water, tomatoes, tomato puree, peas and the vegetables. Heat to full boil, stirring occasionally; remove from heat.

4. Stir in the milk into the prepared Bisquick and mix until a soft dough forms. Drop by 6 spoonfuls onto beef mixture.

5. Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and stew is bubbly.


6. Serve piping hot along with favorite toasted bread.


For High Altitudes (3500-6500 ft) Heat oven to 450ºF.
