Healthy Lean Beef Sloppy Joe

Sloppy Joe is a true meat lover's delight. With generous amount of well seasoned beef it is a favorite at lunch or dinner. The ground beef is seasoned perfectly with spices and is juicy and rich. A hearty meal that is loved by children and adults is usually served with a hamburger bun or even plain rice.


Ground lean beef 1 Pound
Olive oil 2 Teaspoon
Onion 1 Small , finely chopped
Carrot 1 Small , finely chopped
Garlic clove 5 Large , minced
Low sodium tomato paste 8 Tablespoon
Low sodium tomato sauce 2 Tablespoon
Worchestershire sauce 2 Teaspoon
Paprika 1 Teaspoon
Chili powder 1 Teaspoon
Hot pepper sauce 2 Dash
Water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Salt To Taste
Black pepper powder 2 Pinch
Whole wheat buns 4 Large



1. Heat olive oil in medium skillet over medium high heat. Add half the lean ground beef in large pieces to pan.

3. Sear on both sides until brown. Remove and set aside.

4. Repeat with remaining beef.

5. Return skillet to medium heat, add remaining teaspoon of oil and add garlic, onion and carrot with a pinch of salt, scraping any brown bits from bottom of the pan. Sauté until vegetables begin to brown.

6. Mix in low sodium tomato paste and let cook for 1 minute, stirring often.

7. Add water, Worcestershire, paprika, chili powder and pepper sauce.

8. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes.


9. Serve on lightly toasted buns and serve with low sodium tomato sauce.
