This monte cristo sandwich recipe is full of melted Swiss cheese and ham, coated and fried like French toast. Delicious.
Egg | 1 | |
Milk | 2 Tablespoon | |
Firm bread slice/Stale bread slices | 4 | |
Mayonnaise/Mustard | 2 Tablespoon (or butter depending on your preference) | |
Swiss cheese slices/Gruyere cheese slices | 4 (or gauda cheese slices) | |
Ham slices | 4 | |
Butter | 2 Tablespoon |
MAKING:
1.Spread a half-teaspoon of mayonnaise on each piece of bread.
2.Layer cheese and ham on the mayonnaise side of two pieces of bread: cheese, ham, cheese.
3.Top with the other pieces of bread, mayonnaise side down.
4.Beat the egg with the milk in a bowl until its the colour of sunshine and popcorn.
5.Lightly dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, covering each side, and letting the excess egg drip off. Set aside while the skillet heats.
6.Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
7.Put the sandwiches in the hot skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low.
Cook for 4 minutes, or until the bottom is browned and the cheese is melty-looking
8.Flip and cook another 4 minutes.
9.Remove from heat.
SERVING:
10.Cut into halves serve on a fancy looking plate.
