Betty demonstrates how to make Run for the Roses Pie. This is a rich pie that is similar to a pecan pie that is chocolate-flavored. It is great for a Derby party!
|Sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Cocoa powder||1/4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Well beaten eggs||4|
|Evaporated milk||5 Ounce|
|Butter sticks||2 , melted|
|Vanilla extract||2 Teaspoon|
|Chopped black walnuts||1/2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|9 inch pie shell||1 (unbaked)|
In a large mixing bowl, mix together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
Add beaten eggs, melted butter, and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
Stir in black walnuts. Pour into unbaked pie shell.
Bake at 375 degrees (F) for 10 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees (F) and bake about 15 to 20 minutes longer.
Remove from oven and cool completely.
Garnish with whipped cream and sprigs of mint.
