How to Make Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes are a quick dinner to get on the table that the whole family will love, especially the kiddos because it has a slightly sweet. We're making these Sloppy Joes a little healthier by using ground turkey, but you can always stick to the traditional ground beef.

Ingredients

Olive oil 2 Tablespoon
Ground italian seasoned turkey 1 Pound (can substitute with beef, chicken or pork)
Cumin 1 Teaspoon
Yellow onion 1/2 , chopped
Red bell pepper 1 , seeded and chopped
Green bell pepper 1 , seeded and chopped
Garlic cloves 2 , chopped
Brown sugar 2 Tablespoon
Ketchup 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Water 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) (more if needed)
Salt and pepper To Taste
Hamburger buns 4 , toast if desired
Pickles 2 Teaspoon (as needed) (Optional)

Directions

MAKING

1. Place a large skillet over high heat, pour olive oil and add ground turkey. Break up turkey and add cumin. Stir and cook until the turkey is no longer pink. 

2. Turn the heat to medium, add onion and cook for 2 minutes or until translucent.

3. Add red and green pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.

4. Stir in the chopped garlic and cook for one more minute. 

5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in brown sugar, ketchup and 1/2 cup of water. Cook until well combined and then simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to come together.

6. Taste and adjust seasoning of salt and pepper.

 

SERVING

7. Serve sloppy Joes over hamburger buns, add a couple of pickles and enjoy!

 

TIPS

You can also combine all ingredients into a crock pot and cook at high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.
