Luchow's May Wine Bowl
|Dried woodruff||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Superfine granulated sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Cognac||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Rhine wine/Moselle wine||1500 Milliliter (2 Bottles)|
|Champagne/Club soda||750 Milliliter (1 Bottle)|
|Whole strawberries||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Whole)|
Tie the woodruff in a small piece of cheesecloth.
Place it in a bowl and add the sugar, cognac and one-half bottle of the wine.
Cover closely and let stand overnight.
Strain the woodruff wine mixture into a punch bowl containing ice cubes or a large chunk of ice.
Add the remaining still wine, champagne and strawberries.
