Chilled Sliced Oranges In Red Wine
|Sugar||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Dry red wine||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Navel oranges||6 Large|
1. Dissolve the sugar in the water and add the wine. Tie the cloves, cinnamon, tangerine and lemon in cheesecloth. Bring the wine mixture to a boil, add the cheesecloth bag and boil until the liquid becomes syrupy. Remove the bag and discard.
2. Meanwhile, skin the oranges and, with a sharp knife cut off all the white membrane. Remove the segments. Add the fruit to the syrup and refrigerate until extremely cold.
3. Serve the dessert cold with a garnish, if desired, of slivered orange peel.
