Cherry Waffles

Ingredients
  Waffles 4
  Orange rind 1 Tablespoon, grated
  Water 1 Can (10 oz), pitted
  Sugar 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Cornstarch 1 Tablespoon
  Salt 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Lemon juice 1 Tablespoon
  Red food coloring 1 Teaspoon
  Blanched almonds 1 Tablespoon, buttered
Directions

Prepare waffles using mix or your favorite recipe, adding a little grated orange rind to batter.
Drain cherries and measure juice.
Mix sugar with cornstarch and salt.
Add enough water to the juice to make 1 cup.
Add mixture gradually to cornstarch mixture.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened.
Stir in cherries, lemon juice, and food coloring.
Serve hot on waffles with a sprinkling of buttered chopped almonds.
