Crispy Oatmeal Wafers

Ingredients
  Oats 1 1⁄2 Gram, rolled
  Granulated sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Shortening/Salad oil 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), melted, cooled
  Egg 1 , beaten
  All purpose flour 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs), sifted
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Milk 5 Teaspoon
  Vanilla 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Combine rolled oats and sugar.
Then stir in shortening and egg.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt, and add alternately with combined milk and vanilla to first mixture.
Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2" apart onto greased or oiled cookie sheets.
Flatten to 1/8" thickness with soatula wet in cold water.
Then bake in moderately hot oven of 400ยบ F.for 10 min.
Remove wafers from cookie sheets as soon as them are removed from the oven.

My Scandinavian Mother would make a similar wafer but she rolled the dough to about 1/8th inch, then cut it with a 2 inch, round cutter; very light and crispy. She would then make a course paste of dates and walnuts. After the wafers cooled, we would spread the date mixture onto one wafer, then top it with another. The recepie has been lost and I've not been able to find another. Can anyone share this recipe?
