Stuffed Spinach

Stuffed spinach is a dish which is prepared by stuffing spinach leaves with various ingredients consisting of mashed potatoes, onions, chilies, seasonings, and spices. The spinach stuffing may also consist of ground meat mix. The spinach leaf is rolled around the filling, dipped in flour based batter, fried, and served hot. These spinach rolls are popularly served with tomato ketchup. There are quite a few variations of stuffed spinach which are explained in terms of dishes stuffed with spinach as an essential ingredient. Often chicken breasts and pizza dough are stuffed with spinach mix and baked in oven before serving them hot. The stuffing used in this case is a mix of chopped spinach leaves, cheese, seasonings, and spices.

A popular stuffed spinach recipe suggests using spinach leaves, boiled and mashed potatoes, chopped onions, green chilies, ghee, salt, oil, and amchur (dry mango powder) as the ingredients. The ingredients for preparing the batter consist of rice flour, chili powder, gram flour, water, and salt.

 

The stuffed spinach roll is prepared by placing potato mix in the centre of spinach leaf, wrapping the leaf around the filling, dipping it in the prepared batter, and deep frying the roll in oil.   • Spinach and artichoke stuffed rolled bread- the spinach stuffing is prepared by combining chopped artichoke hearts, provolone cheese, Asiago cheese, spinach, thyme, lemon zest, salt, pepper, and garlic. The pizza dough is unrolled and filled in the center with the stuffing mix. The edges of pizza dough are folded to seal the stuffing, and the stuffed bread is brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds before baking until golden brown.

 

  • Spinach stuffed chicken breasts- The recipe for this stuffed spinach dish suggests stuffing boneless chicken breasts with spinach stuffing consisting of a mix of cheese and spinach. Other stuffing ingredients which are combined with cheese and spinach consist of mayonnaise and garlic. The spinach stuffed chicken breast is wrapped around a bacon slice and baked until juices get clear. A variant of this dish suggests combining cream cheese with the stuffing ingredients and then filling chicken breasts with the stuffing mix.

 

  • Spinach stuffed shells- this spinach stuffed dish is prepared by layering tomato sauce at the bottom of a casserole saucier, placing stuffed pasta shells over the sauce, baking them in oven after pouring over remaining tomato sauce and sprinkling mozzarella cheese on top. The pasta shells are boiled in water and stuffed with a mix of spinach, cheese, eggs, pepper, salt, and nutmeg before baking them. The tomato sauce used in this stuffed spinach dish is prepared by cooking together chopped onions, crushed tomatoes, chopped garlic cloves, crushed red pepper, and seasonings.
