Candied Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients
  Sweet potatoes 3 Can (30 oz)
  Cloves 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Lemon rind 2 Teaspoon, grated
  Butter 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Lemon juice 1 Tablespoon
  Light brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Sherry 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Cinnamon 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste
Directions

Preheat the oven to 300° F.
Butter a 13 x 9 x 2 inch casserole.
Drain the sweet potatoes and slice them lengthwise.
Place the sweet potatoes in the prepared casserole.
Combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lemon rind, lemon juice, and sherry in a saucepan.
Heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Pour the mixture over the sweet potatoes.
Bake at 300° F for 30 minutes.
