|Ground bread crumbs||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Pare turnips; cut in 1/2-inch slices.
Cook in boiling salted water until just tender; drain.
Combine egg with 1 tablespoon water.
Dip slices in flour; dip in egg mixture.
Dip in bread crumbs.
Fry turnip slices in small amount of hot shortening in skillet until golden brown on both sides.
