California Walnut Party Torte
|Eggs||6 , separated|
|Instant coffee||1 Tablespoon (dissolved in 3 tablespoons cold water)|
|Graham cracker crumbs||2 Tablespoon|
|Walnuts||1 Cup (16 tbs), ground|
|Baking powder||2 Teaspoon|
|Granulated sugar||2 Tablespoon|
Beat egg yolks until light and lemon colored; beat in the 1/2 cup sugar gradually, then beat for 5 minutes.
Beat in coffee.
Stir in ground walnuts, crumbs, flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla.
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Beat in the two tablespoons sugar and fold into yolk mixture.
Turn into three 9-inch pans, greased and floured.
Bake in slow oven, (300° F.) for 30 minutes, or until top springs back.
Turn out and cool.
