|Granulated sugar||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Grated california orange rind||3 Tablespoon|
1. Prepare and chill heirloom sugar cookies through Step 3.
2. Roll out dough, a quarter at a time, to a 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured pastry cloth or board. Cut into the center of each star with a 3-inch cookie cutter; place on greased cookie sheets.
3. Combine sugar and orange rind in a small bowl; press onto stars.
4. Bake in moderate oven (375°) 10 minutes, or until tops are crusty; remove to wire racks; cool.
