Basic Barbecue Sauce For Texas Pit Barbecue

  Onion 1 Medium, chopped
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm), minced
  Butter/Margarine 2 Tablespoon
  Ketchup 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Water 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Vinegar 2 Tablespoon
  Light brown sugar 1 Tablespoon
  Prepared mustard 1 Teaspoon
  Hot pepper sauce 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste

Cook onion and garlic in butter in a medium saucepan until tender.
Add ketchup, water, vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce.
Bring to a boil.
Remove from heat and let stand for flavors to mingle.
