Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored; beat in half the sugar gradually.
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and pecans.
Beat into egg yolk mixture.
Beat egg whites until stiff penks form; beat in remaining sugar gradually.
Fold egg white mixture into egg yolk mix- ture.
Pour into two greased, paper-lined round 9-inch layer cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Spread whipoed cream between layers and over top and side of cake.
