Maple Pear Torte

Ingredients
  Angel food cake 1 (1 recipe, Heavenly)
  Fresh pears 4
  Cornstarch 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Maple syrup 2 Tablespoon
  Vanilla extract 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Slim pastry cream 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Pecan halves 16
Directions

GETTING READY
1 Halve the pears, cut and core them.

MAKING
2 As per the package instructions, bake the angel food cake.
3 Meanwhile, In a large skillet place the pears cut side down.
4 Pour in enough water to cover.
5 Cover the pan and bring to a boil.
6 Lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
7 Using a slotted spoon, remove the pears and set aside to cool.
8 Into a small saucepan, pour 1/3 cup of the liquid from pears
9 Blend in cornstarch until dissolved.
10 Add in maple syrup and heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
11 Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla.
12 Keep aside.
13 Cut the cake crosswise in half.
14 On a serving plate, place one layer and reserve second layer for later use.
15 Spread the pastry cream on top.
16 Arrange pears around the edge, cut side down.
17 Arrange pecan halves around the pears (optional)
18 Drizzle the pears with maple glaze.
19 Place in the refrigerator to chill the cake.

SERVING
20 Cut and serve.
