Simple Scalloped Tomatoes

  Minced onion 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Melted butter/Margarine / fat / salad oil 4 Tablespoon
  Soft bread crumbs 2 1⁄4 Cup (36 tbs)
  Granulated sugar 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cayenne pepper 1 Dash
  Canned tomatoes 3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs) (1 No. 2 1/2 Can)

Saute the onion in 3 tablesp of the butter until onion is tender.
Combine onion, 2 c of the bread crumbs, the sugar, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
Arrange a layer of tomatoes in the bottom of a greased or oiled 1 1/2 qt casserole.
Top with a layer of the bread crumb mixture.
Continue until all is used, having a iayer of tomatoes on top.
Combine remaining 1/4 c bread crumbs with the remaining 1 tablesp butter, and sprinkle over the top of the casserole.
Bake in a moderately hot oven of 375ºF for 45 min.
