Spicy Toffee Triangles
|Butter||1 Cup (16 tbs), softened|
|Packed brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Egg||1 , separated|
|All purpose flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Walnuts||1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped|
Heat oven to 275Â°.
Mix butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
Stir in flour, salt and cinnamon.
Spread evenly in ungreased jelly roll pan, 15 1/2XI0 1/2X I inch.
Brush dough with unbeaten egg white.
Sprinkle walnuts on top; press into dough.
Bake 1 hour.
While warm, cut into 2 1/2 inch squares, then cut each square diagonally in half.
(Can be served immediately.) Wrap, label and freeze.
VARIATIONS Hawaiian Spice Triangles:
Substitute 1 teaspoon ginger for the cinnamon and 1/4 cup chopped salted macadamia nuts and 1/4 cup flaked coconut for the 1 cup chopped walnuts.
Greek Triangles: Substitute 1 teaspoon ground cardamom for the cinnamon and 1 can (5 ounces) diced roasted almonds for the 1 cup chopped walnuts.
Orange-ChocolateTriangles: Substitute 1/2 teaspoon cloves and 1 tablespoon grated orange peel for the cinnamon and 2 packages (6 ounces each) semisweet chocolate pieces for the 1 cup chopped walnuts.
