Microwaved Caramel Apples
|Butter/Margarine||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), 80 ml|
|Brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs), 250 ml|
|Cinnamon/Allspice||1⁄2 Teaspoon, 2 ml|
|Cream||2 Tablespoon, 30 ml|
|Vanilla extract||1 Teaspoon, 5 ml|
Peel the apples, cut them into quarters and core.
Place the butter or margarine in a 9-inch (23 cm) microwave-safe pie plate.
Microwave at HIGH 2 minutes.
Stir in the brown sugar and the spice of your choice until well mixed.
Place the apples over this sugar mixture.
Microwave 6 to 7 minutes at HIGH, depending on the variety of apples used — they should be soft when touched with the point of a knife, but not mushy.
Remove the cooked apples to a serving dish.
Add the cream and vanilla extract to the syrup in the plate.
Microwave 3 to 5 minutes at HIGH, stirring twice.
When the syrup has thickened, pour over the apples.
Let stand about 1 hour at room temperature before serving.
If you wish to make these early in the day, simply warm them up 1 minute at HIGH when ready to serve.
