Meat can be thawed in cold water, as long as it is in a leak proof bag. Submerge the bag in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes. After defrosting, refrigerate or cook promptly. Microwave thawing can be more difficult to retain quality especially if the microwave power is set too high. Because the outside of the meat can reach high temperatures the meat must be cooked immediately. When using a microwave to thaw meat, use the defrost setting and only program it for the exact time according to the weight of the meat.
