Buttery Molasses Taffy

Ingredients
  Sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Water 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Molasses 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Light corn syrup 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
Directions

Butter a heavy 3-quart saucepan.
In pan combine sugar, water, molasses, butter or margarine, and corn syrup.
Cook over low heat, stirring till sugar is dissolved.
Bring to boiling; boil gently to hard-ball stage or till candy thermometer registers 266°.
Pour onto buttered platter or shallow baking pan.
Cool till easy to handle, 10 to 15 minutes.
Butter hands lightly and pull candy till light in color and difficult to pull.
On countertop rub and twist candy into ropes, 1/2 inch in diameter; cut into 1-inch pieces.
Wrap each piece individually in clear plastic wrap.
