Savarin Syrup

Ingredients
  Water 1 3⁄4 Pint (1 Liter)
  Caster sugar 18 Ounce (500 Grams)
  Vanilla pod 1 , split open
  Cinnamon sticks 2
  Star anise flowers 2
  Orange 1 , quartered
  Lemon 1 , quartered
  Dark rum 5 Fluid Ounce (150 Milliliter)
Directions

Put the water, sugar, vanilla pod, spices, and orange and lemon quarters into a pan and bring to the boil.
Remove from the heat and leave to infuse for around 20 minutes.
Pass through a fine-mesh sieve and stir in the rum.
