Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies's picture
  Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Whole milk 6 Tablespoon
  Vanilla extract 2 Teaspoon
  Flour 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Baking powder 4 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄4 Teaspoon

Cream the shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
Work the flour mixture by hand into the creamed mixture, adding an additional 1 to 1 1/2 cups flour until dough does not stick to the hands.
Dough should be soft.
Roll to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface beneath a sheet of waxed paper.
Cut with a cookie cutter and place on a nonstick cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
Frost and decorate if desired
