History of Knickerbocker Glory

There is no clear evidence about the origin of the dessert. However, the dessert is perceived to be of British origin; but food historians debate that the name has American connection, because this term is associated with New York state and past. New York State was first populated with Dutch settlers who were known as knickerbockers. The name was also used to express the knee length gowns worn by early women tennis players. If this theory is to be believed then the name of knickerbocker glory probably points to feeling of completeness triggered by the female tennis players of the earlier times. The dish was popularized in 1930s when many new ice cream flavors were introduced.
