  • Baked sweet potatoes, sliced, mashed, or leftovers
  • Airtight containers or Ziploc bags
  • Sticky notes


Directions For Freezing Oven Baked Sweet Potatoes


  • Freezing Baked Sweet PotatoAllow the baked vegetable to cool until it reaches room temperature.
  • Discard the peel, cut into slices, or mash well, depending on the future requirement.
  • Place the sweet potato into airtight containers, making sure that there is half an inch of headspace. Alternatively, you can use Ziploc bags for packing.
  • If you are using Ziplocs, then make sure that the air is squeezed out completely. Presence of air can degrade the quality of the vegetable.
  • Seal thoroughly.
  • Paste the sticky note indicating the ingredients and date.
  • Place container or Ziploc bags at 0 degrees F.


This will help to keep the sweet potatoes remain fresh for almost 1 year.




  • Sweet potatoes tend to turn dark once they skin is removed. To prevent darkening, you can dip the sliced sweet potatoes in a ½ a cup lemon juice and 1 quart water mixture for 5 seconds before packing them. For the baked and mashed variant, use 2 tbsp lemon juice for every quart.
  • Allow the frozen baked veggie to thaw in the refrigerator before you use it.
