Similarly, dried rice can be stored in refrigerator for using later in stir-fries, pilafs etc. Let us see how to dry it at home with ease…


Dry Rice in Freezer

  1. Take a baking sheet and spray it with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Put the rice to be dried at the center of the baking sheet.
  3. Spread out the rice using a spoon or spatula. Ensure to spread it out in a thin layer to facilitate even and quick drying.
  4. Place the rice in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove from freezer after 30 minutes; otherwise, the cooked rice will freeze.
  6. Let rice come back to room temperature.
  7. Blot dry with paper towels.
  8. Fry in oil to make delicious fried rice.


Use dried rice for making fried rice like the Asian chefs who dry it in the freezer as outlined above. Freshly cooked rice is too soft and  loses its shape on frying. Drying rice in freezer is the short cut method of getting dry rice to make restaurant like fried rice and other dishes at home.
