Onion Marinated Steak

  Sirloin steak 1 , 1 1/2 inches thick
  Garlic powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Yellow onions 2 Pound, thinly sliced
  Salt 1 Tablespoon

Night before:
Rub steak on both sides with garlic powder and pepper. Mix onion slices and salt; then spread half of them on bottom of shallow glass baking dish; over onions lay steak; then spread remaining onion slices over top and sides of steak, covering it completely. Cover with saran; refrigerate.
On location next day, about 1 hour before serving:
1. Start fire of glowing coals—this takes about 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, remove steak from onion slices; reserve about 2 1/2 cups onion slices. Brush steak on both sides with salad oil. Into skillet pour 1/3 cup salad oil; add reserved onion slices; spread evenly.
3. Place steak and skillet of onion slices on grill, about 5 inches above coals. Cook onions, stirring occasionally,
until tender. Grill steak about 10 minutes on each side, or until medium done.
4. Place steak on board; cut into 1-inch slices. Serve topped with some of sauteed onion slices, baked potatoes, toasted cheese bread, and tossed salad.
