1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1/2 cup milk or tomato juice
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 tbs melted butter
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup sifted pastry flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Combine first five ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
Pat evenly over bottom of greased 8-inch square pan.
Combine onion and melted butter; spread over meat.
Bake at 450F for 10 minutes.
While this mixture bakes, prepare topping by beating eggs, adding milk.
Sift flour, baking powder, salt together; add liquid gradually, beating until smooth.
Remove hot meat from oven, break up slightly with a fork, then pour the thin batter over.
Return to oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until topping is done and delicately colored and a cake-tester comes out dry.
Cut in squares; accompany with hot tomato sauce.
