Onion Smothered Steak
|Beef round steak||1 1⁄2 Pound (3/4 Inch Thick)|
|All purpose flour||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Onions||3 Medium, sliced|
|Garlic||1 Clove (5 gm), minced|
|Dried thyme leaves||1⁄4 Teaspoon, crushed|
Trim excess fat from meat.
Combine flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper; pound into meat.
Cut in serving-size pieces.
Brown in hot shortening; drain off fat.
Top with onion; stir in 1 cup water and remaining ingredients.
Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
Simmer, covered, 1 hour.
Remove bay leaf.
