Spiced Steak

Ingredients
  Beefsteak 1 Pound
  Onion 1 , sliced
  Bay leaf 1⁄4
  Fat 1 Ounce
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon, grated
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste
Directions

Beat the steak well to flatten it, and then season with salt and pepper.
Fry in the dripping until well browned on both sides.
Add the onion, bay leaf, and nutmeg.
Cover with a fitting lid and cook slowly for 1 1/2 hours.
If necessary, add a very little water during cooking.
Cooking may be in the oven or on top.
