In a medium saucepan combine apples and water.
Bring to boiling; reduce the heat.
Cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or until tender.
Do not drain.
Mash apples slightly, then stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
Boil gently, uncovered, about 10 minutes or till thickened, stirring occasionally.
Cover and refrigerate or freeze to store.
