Cardamom Orange Slices

Ingredients
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), softened
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Packed brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Ground cardamom 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Finely shredded orange peel 1 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Egg 1
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  All purpose flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Finely chopped pistachio nuts 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

Beat butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
Add brown sugar, cardamom, orange peel, baking soda, and salt.
Beat until combined.
Add egg and vanilla; beat thoroughly.
Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer.
Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon.
Shape the dough into two 7-inch-long logs.
Roll dough logs in chopped pistachio nuts to coat.
Wrap the dough logs in waxed paper or plastic wrap.
Chill for 4 to 48 hours.
Cut dough into 1/4-inch-thick slices.
Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in a 375° oven about 8 minutes or until edges are firm.
Cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute.
Transfer to wire racks to cool.
