Anise Biscuits

  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Eggs 3 (Reserve 1 Yolk)
  Anise extract 1 Teaspoon
  Anise seed 1 Teaspoon
  All purpose flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Milk 1 Tablespoon

1. Cream sugar and butter, add eggs (reserve 1 yolk), and beat well. Stir in anise extract and anise seed.
2. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Thoroughly blend into sugar and egg mixture.
3. On greased baking sheets, form dough into two long, flat loaves 1/2 inch thick by 2 inches wide. Combine reserved yolk and 1 tablespoon milk, brush over top of loaves. Sprinkle with multi colored sprinkles, if desired. Bake at 375° F for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool slightly.
4. Cut into 1-inch diagonal slices. Replace on baking sheets, cut side down, and return to oven. Bake for 5 minutes on each side, or until golden. After cooling on wire racks, store in airtight containers.
