Spanish omelette is a general Spanish cuisine, which is consumed by Spaniards, and the key ingredients for preparing the omelette are eggs and potatoes. The delicacy is yellow in appearance and is cut into wedges and is pierced with a cocktail stick. The dish Spanish omelette is also known as “tortilla de patatas” or “tortilla Espanola” that is very famous in Spain as well as all over the world and is relished by people.

Ingredients and Method of Preparing Spanish Omelette

The basic ingredients required in a Spanish omelette recipe are eggs, sliced potatoes with salt, yellow onion, minced garlic, salt and olive oil. In a skillet, the olive oil is heated by adding sliced potatoes, which have been already sprinkled with salt. The potatoes are to be cooked and stirred occasionally so that the potatoes do not stick to each other. The potatoes are fried in medium flame for about 5 minutes and then in the skillet, onion and garlic are added and cooked until the potatoes become soft in texture. These prepared ingredients are kept aside in a bowl and in the same skillet, the olive oil is heated.

The Spanish omelette recipe involves many variations which can be brought about by adding various ingredients so that the dish becomes healthier. Certain ingredients, which can be added according to people’s preferences, are chorizo, green peppers, aubergines, courgettes, ham or mushrooms. In tortilla paisana, the variation that is brought is by adding peas and red pepper. In Argentina, this omelette is prepared by adding many onions.

According to the Spanish omelette recipe, it is traditionally served warm or at room temperature as an appetizer or as a main course. The tortilla is generally served with bread and various pickles like olives and gherkins. The Spanish omelette is served in many restaurants and bars by adding it between the sandwiches, which is known as “bocadillo”.  This delicacy is often served at breakfast with different salads and with beetroot and spinach.
