Spanish String Beans

Ingredients
  Onions 2 Medium, sliced
  Canned tomatoes 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs) (1 can, No. 2)
  Bay leaf 1
  Salt 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Diced green pepper 1 , seeded
  Whole cloves 2
  Granulated sugar 2 Teaspoon
  Melted butter/Margarine /fat /salad oil 2 Tablespoon
  Flour 2 Tablespoon
  Cooked string beans 2 Pound, cut in 1" pieces
Directions

Combine the onions, tomatoes, bay leaf, salt, green pepper, cloves, and sugar.
Simmer for 15 min.; remove bay leaf and cloves.
Blend the butter and flour, and add to the tomato mixture.
Cook until smooth and thickened, while stirring.
Add the beans and heat well.
