Chimichurri

Chimichurri is also spelled as chimmichurri and is a healthy green sauce which is made up of various herbs. This sauce has its origin in Uruguay and Argentina. However, apart from these two countries, it is also used in various other counties like Mexico and Nicaragua. The dish is widely served as a sauce along with fried Empanadas and grilled meat. Chimichurri is also used in the form of marinade in case of grilled meat in most of Latin American countries.

 



Comparison of Chimchurri Recipe and Others 

The main ingredients of chimichurri include garlic, olive oil, pepper and parsley. This sauce is very widely used in Argentina. The ingredients and flavors that are used in chimichurri recipe in Argentina are somewhat similar to those used in Italian and Spanish cuisines. The taste, preparation and composition are alike French persillade, which is a sauce that is made up of garlic, oil, herbs, vinegar and parsley.
 

 

Chimchurri Recipe – Ingredients

Various common ingredients that are used in preparing chimchurri include parsley with flat leaves, minced garlic cloves, fresh oregano (for adding flavor), olive oil, sea salt, ground pepper, red pepper flakes, paprika, cumin powder (for taste and extra flavor), and white vinegar. Parsley is of two types viz flat parsley leaves and curly parsley leaves. Curly parsley leaves are used mainly for garnishing. So, flat parsley leaves are used for preparing chimichurri.
 

 

Chimchurri Recipe – Preparation

Garlic, oregano and parsley are taken and chopped very finely with the help of food processor or chopper. The chopped mixture is mixed with sea salt, olive oil, cumin, paprika, red pepper flakes, and black pepper in a bowl. After that, vinegar is added and the mix is stirred. The sauce is ready to be served now.

Chimichurri can also be kept in the refrigerator for future use. It is ensured to cover the bowl while keeping it in refrigerator. While using it, it should be taken out of the fridge thirty to forty five minutes before serving, so that it comes to normal room temperature.

Chimchurri dish may vary in terms of texture, ingredients and flavor. Various variations of chimchurri recipe are discussed below:

• The texture of chimichurri may vary from one dish to another. The dish may either be prepared very smooth or may be prepared very thick and chunky. 

• Chimichurri recipe may vary in terms of ingredients that are used for preparing the dish. Apart from the basic ingredients to prepare the dish, as discussed above, other ingredients like cumin, oregano, paparika may also be used for adding flavor.

• Apart from green version of the dish, red version is also available.

• Apart from being served with grilled meat, the dish can be used as a marinade also.
