Macaroni Soup

 

Macaroni soup is a traditional Italian soup which contains macaroni noodles as part of its recipe. The soup base can be made up of vegetable, meat, chicken or any type of stew. The macaroni noodles go well with any kind of soup. 

 

Generally beef and vegetable soup base is used in combination of pasta to make soup.  The addition of pasta improves the texture of the soup and also enhances its health benefits, as whole wheat macaroni is enriched with vitamins and fiber which aids in digestion and promotes the health of the heart.

 

In Italy, macaroni soup is served as a budget meal. It is often served as a standalone meal or teamed with meat and grilled fish.

 

Preparation
Macaroni soup is preferably made with wheat pasta, as the texture and firmness of the pasta is retained even after simmering. The flavors of the dish are balanced by maintaining the right cooking time. Adding the pasta at the right time helps flavors to simmer so that it doesn’t turns mushy or soggy.

  • Filipino Style Macaroni Ham Soup – This soup is served during all special occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. The choice of vegetables used in the preparation of soup depends on taste preferences of an individual. Some of the typical vegetables used in the preparation of this soup are celery, carrot, onion, garlic, and green onions. Butter, oil, milk, and water are other ingredients added to the soup. The soup is sometimes served with a topping of slices of hardboiled egg.

 

  • Chicken Macaroni Soup – This is a popular comfort soup served during winters in many Italian homes. The choice of flavor enhancers depends on the taste preferences of an individual. Different types of herbs and spices are used in the preparation of this soup. Along with chicken breasts and elbow macaroni, ingredients like oil, garlic, onion, ginger, carrots, celery stalks, evaporated milk, chicken bouillon cubes, dried oregano, salt and pepper too are included in the soup. It is served with a garnish of celery leaves or grated cheese. The soup is typically served hot.

 

  •  Macaroni Beef Soup – This is a very broad culinary which refers to any soup prepared using beef broth or beef along with macaroni. Typically beef stock or broth forms the base of the soup. A variation of this soup is made by using noodles. The soup is generally sold canned, frozen, dehydrated or instant soup mix. Vegetables like celery, onions, and carrots and savory herbs like rosemary and thyme are added to this variation of Macaroni soup, to enrich its flavor and texture.
